Grab Bag Giveaway

blue cotton drawstring bag with white flowers

Earlier this year I gave serious consideration to opening an Etsy shop selling grab bags with paper goods in them (I wrote about it here on Charlotte’s Fancy). I got a lot of positive feedback about the idea, because, you know, who doesn’t love taking their chances on a grab bag? Plus, I guarantee their awesomeness, so there’s really no risk involved.

I spent a few months collecting some fun goodies and found a handful of amazing cotton bags (each one with different patterns and colors) by chance at a Boden warehouse sale. But then life got in the way, and I kinda put the idea on the back burner.

Lucky for you, I’m giving one away this week, and just this once, I’m letting you see most – but not all – of what’s in it. Do you spy Rifle Paper Co.? How about Egg Press and Paper Source? If you guys go nuts for this, maybe I will reconsider opening a shop.

To win, leave me a comment by Friday–one comment per person, please–and let me know what’s the most you think you would spend on a grab bag (assume that it comes packaged nicely, with at least ten items in it – notecards, pencils, stickers, a small notebook, etc). I’ll use random.org to pick a winner and announce it next Monday. Due to shipping costs, which I am paying, I have to limit this giveaway to US and Canada addresses only.

Good luck!

Ooh, I hope Number 1 is chosen by random.org. I love this!

I’m not sure exactly how much I would spend on a grab bag. But $20 feels like a rather round number.

Oh! What a great idea. I love getting little surprises in grab bags. I’d say $20 is a good figure for a grab bag. It looks like a lot of great stuff! =)

How beautiful! I would spend $20 but in my experience as a retailer $15 may be your best choice if you are looking to move more product…

I must be a cheapskate, because i’d only pay $5. The concept of the grab bag sits on the fact that the buyer cannot see what’s in it, so s/he has to trust the seller that there will be something good. That trust costs money, so the grab bag always has to be priced with that in mind.

    Hi,

First, congratulations on the new blog. What a wonderful idea! In the mean time, I’d pay $15-$20 for a grab bag like this one. The bag itself looks great for storing other things, too… I’m thinking crayons and paper for long trips in the car with the kids.

    Looking forward to future posts.

    All best,

    Jen

I would say about $10-12 for a mystery grab-bag. Part of the fun is the surprise, but I wouldn’t want to spend more than $15 tops for something when I didn’t know exactly what I was getting. Cool idea!

I’d agree with Claudia – you could probably sell them for $20, but I think you’d sell a lot more of them for $15. I’d definitely buy one for $15, but I’d think twice if it was $20 (and then probably buy it anyway, ’cause I can’t resist paper goodies – but not everyone is as obsessed as me!)

    Great idea!

Yay! Who wouldn’t love a big ‘ole bag of paper goodness? Like you, I’m a fool for all things paper! I think $15 would be just about right, especially given the brands you mentioned. Love you new blog!

When I was 10, there was a Sanrio store that i adored in the Cherry Hill Mall in NJ. It was packed with Hello Kitty paraphenalia. They offered $10 mystery grab bags which were always full of wonderful apple and berry flavored gums, stamp sets, pencils, small boxes, erasers, notepads… I absolutely loved these treasure bags. As a grwon up, I love the idea of a grab bag. I would think this would also make a really fun gift for the holidays for my favorite paper lovers. I think I would probably pay around a max of $20 for them, but at that price, I am wondering how much beautiful paper you can reallly afford to put in there….

I’m completely b-a-n-a-n-a-s for grab bags. They were one of my favorite things to purchase as a kid, I still have some of those treasures lurking around my home!

I think the idea is pretty great. I’d fall in the $10-$15 range. Though I think you may be able to get away with $20 grab bags if they were themed – “Thank You”, “Cupcakes” “Animals”, etc. may may folks more likely to spend a bit more.

I also agree with Claudia and Sarah – a $15 grab bag would appeal to a wider audience. Offering themes or colours would also be helpful. Congrats on the new blog – it looks great!

    Oooh, what a fun idea!
I’d probably pay around $10 for a grab bag. They are typically associated with leftovers from a project or other items that maybe didn’t sell as well. If you filled them with new products and included a little card for something like 10% off your next online purchase (or other incentive) you could probably sell them for $15-20.

I love grab bags, and agree with most about the price, between $15-20. If they are themed, you could get away with a higher price.

Congrats on the new site! I love that you’re already posting so frequently :)

I’d say between $12-15. Like others have already stated, you’d be able to get away with selling them for more, but I think selling them for around $15 would definitely move the product along.

I really hope you end up opening a shop on Etsy — you’re ideas are great!

$10. I’m not entering because that would just be pushing my luck, but the grab bag thing is such a great idea and I’d be happy to spend $10 for a bit of fun like that. Love the new blog, by the way…congrats! xo
